Course Outline:

This course by David O’Halloran will give you a broad understanding of cancer treatment options, their potential side effects and the complex terminology used.

Target Audience:

The course is aimed at clinical trials coordinators and administrators, researchers, cancer data analysts, data managers, information specialists and those wanting to gain an understanding of cancer treatments. Previous delegates to the Introduction to Cancer course may like to take expand on previous learning with this course.



Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course delegates will understand:

• The role of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapies in the treatment of cancer
• The relationship between of the cell cycle and DNA and the effective working of these treatment strategies
• How the more common chemotherapy drugs work and the terminology associated with chemotherapy
• The different routes of administration of chemotherapy drugs
• How radiotherapy works effectively against cancer
• Common terminology associated with radiotherapy
• The differences between external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy
• The targets associated with targeted treatments
• The role of oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes and effective treatments
• The various categories and ways of working of targeted treatments
• The side effects of treatment associated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy
