Channel ports and Isles of Scilly

Channel ports and Isles of Scilly

17 May 17:00 - 31 May 10:00 - Hamble
Port Hamble Marina

What's the plan?

This trip is a special trip over two weeks which will cover around 500 miles. We'll make several stops along the way, sometimes with a whole day or more in a particular location, but there will also be significant sailing legs involved too which in some cases will have us at sea for periods of around 24 hours at a time.

We'll start off with a Channel crossing to Guernsey, where we'll make a stopover to explore the island. From there we will make another stop in Brittany which will give us a good angle to get to back across the Channel to the Scillies against the prevailing winds.

We will aim to spend 4 - 5 days in the Scillies visiting the main island of St Mary's along with Tresco and its world-famous gardens, and Bryher too, before heading back along the south coast of England via ports such as Falmouth, Salcombe, Dartmouth and Weymouth. Obviously all destinations are weather dependent to some extent.

We'll sail aboard a Beneteau Oceanis 37 yacht fitted with AIS.

As skipper I will be on hand at all times to ensure the boat is sailed safely. I have lots of sailing experience and have a commercial skipper's licence. I'm also an RYA Instructor.

Who should come?

This will be a great trip for those of you who have some sailing experience and want to enhance it, with opportunities to get involved in handling the yacht as we undertake open water sailing passages and navigation. People who have less experience will be able to take part too though.

On this trip we will not always be able to spend the night in marinas, so you will need to be agile enough to get on and off the boat using a dinghy on the occasions when we have to spend the night at anchor.

PLEASE note that you will need to pay a deposit to reserve your place, so if you'd like to go please contact me as soon as possible on 07711-528477. Please also call that number if you have any questions you'd like to discuss.

There will be a get-together prior to the trip in a London restaurant so that everyone who's going can meet each other in advance. Dates for that will be arranged once we know who'll be coming along.

How much does it cost?

This trip is for two weeks and costs £750 per person (i.e. £375 per week). You won't need to book any flights of course, so the total cost for two weeks sailing will be quite reasonable!

We operate a kitty system for other costs, which includes marina fees, diesel fuel and shopping (we eat breakfast and lunches on board). This will not ordinarily exceed £50 per person per week. We will usually eat out in restaurants in the evening as a group, although you're not obliged to of course, and those costs depend on how hungry you are.

Cabins are based on two same-sex people or couples sharing a double cabin, or single occupancy of saloon berths. You can have a cabin to yourself of course, but it will cost double for that - i.e. you'll be paying for both spaces.

If there are any things that you're not sure about please feel free to give me a call.

Hope you can join us!
